Fish Salvage Upper Deschutes

MHE annually conducts an annual fish salvage effort within a side-channel of the upper Deschutes River following water drawdown from Wikiup Reservoir. In an effort to rescue stranded fish, dominantly salmonids, MHE works with volunteers to capture and relocate the fish to the mainstem Deschutes River. This large-scale salvage effort requires careful coordination and communication with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW), irrigation districts, various non-profit organizations, and community members. In addition to field work and data collection, MHE conducts data quality control, database management, and reporting.
